Asperger Syndrome Symptoms

Many people have children that are hyper, distracted or unruly. That does not mean there is or might be something wrong with them. You as a parent or caregiver will know your child the best. If you think there is a problem and you think it is autism, check these Asperger Syndrome symptoms. Do you see these symptoms in your child?

First of all you should know that Asperger’s syndrome symptoms typically manifests itself in a child by delays in the way they develop many of their basic skills, most noticeable is the inability to socialize or get along with others, communicating with others or to use their imagination. And that even though Asperger syndrome symptoms are similar to autism, it has some very important differences. Typically children that have Asperger’s syndrome function better than children with autism. They usually exhibit normal intelligence and near-normal language processes.

Asperger syndrome symptoms can vary in each child and range from very mild to more severe. Basic symptoms might include: Difficulty with their social skills: The children exhibiting Asperger Syndrome symptoms often will have difficulty when interacting with others or can be very awkward and uncomfortable in social situations. In general they do not have the ability to make friends easily with others.

The children with Asperger Syndrome symptoms often will exhibit odd and/or sometimes repetitive behaviors: such as finger twisting or hand wringing. Often a child with Asperger syndrome symptoms will set rituals that he/she feels they need to do and refuses to alter or be altered from them. Such an example would be getting dressed or eating in a certain order or only using a certain towel to bathe.

In the area of communication: Children who have any Asperger’s syndrome symptoms may refuse to make eye contact with anyone they are speaking to. They may not have the usual gestures or facial expressions people are used to seeing in someone conversing with them, and the child with Asperger syndrome symptoms does not usually understand the body language of themselves or the other person.

Whereas a child without any Asperger Syndrome symptoms will have a wide range of interests, more than likely a child exhibiting Asperger syndrome symptoms may cultivate a deep, sometimes nearly obsessive, interest or attachment in a couple of things. It is also possible they will have an interest in just one area or thing. Such as, the batting average of one team or how many planes fly into a certain airport.

Last but not least, some of the movements of a child who has Asperger’s syndrome symptoms may appear clumsy or erratic. While all these things will probably concern many parents, please know that there are so many children that have A.S. and that are exceptionally talented and skilled certain areas, such as math or music.
